National County Government Month
Held each April, NCGM is an annual celebration of county government. NACo equips counties with template materials, social media graphics, and more resources to kick off the month of recognition.

National Center for Public Lands Counties
The NACo Center for Public Lands Counties is dedicated to advancing the policy and practice study of America’s public lands counties. Our mission is to deepen the understanding and address the unique challenges faced by counties containing federal lands through strategic research and collaboration.
Opioid Solutions Center
NACo's Opioid Solutions Center empowers local leaders to invest resources in effective treatment, recovery, prevention and harm reduction practices that save lives and address the underlying causes of substance use disorder.

County Behavioral Health Crisis Response
Through technical assistance, national partnerships and member-driven initiatives, NACo’s County Behavioral Health Crisis Response programs equip county leaders with resources, peer learning opportunities and national initiatives that strengthen local behavioral health systems.
Youth Justice
Through technical assistance, national partnerships and member-driven initiatives, NACo’s Youth Justice programming equips county leaders with resources and peer learning opportunities to strengthen local youth justice systems.
Counties for Housing Solutions
NACo’s Counties for Housing Solutions program offers free three-month technical assistance sprints to address this challenge by helping counties increase local housing supply.
Rural Leaders for Economic Mobility
Rural Leaders for Economic Mobility is a knowledge-sharing peer learning network that will empower local government leaders and partners from 10 low-population counties.
Economic Recovery Corps (ERC)
The Economic Recovery Corps (ERC) is a 30-month national fellowship, launched in partnership with the U.S. Economic Development Administration, that embeds experienced economic development professionals in counties nationwide to build local capacity and advance inclusive, long-term economic growth.
Rural Energy Academy
Future Opportunities:
Join the Energy Counties Exchange to stay informed on all energy resources and upcoming programming including one energy focused peer exchange event in June, a NACo Energy Symposium in September and a data center peer exchange in November. Applications open approximately two months prior to the event.
Recent Opportunity:
NACo's first Rural Energy Academy (REA) technical assistance cohort launches in Spring 2026. Applications to join are now closed. Learn how REA can still support your county by completing this form to connect with NACo staff and program partners from Mana Group Consulting.
Military Communities Initiative
The U.S. Department of Defense Readiness and Environmental Protection Initiative Program helps manage encroachment and incompatible development near military installations. The program forms partnerships that protect military operations from restrictive development and strengthens long-term relationships between the Department of Defense and counties.
Public Health Leadership Initiative
Applications to NACo’s inaugural Public Health Leadership Academy are now closed. We will be launching applications for the next cohort this fall. If you would like to be notified when applications launch, sign up here.
Childcare Supply Initiative
The Childcare Supply Network supports local leaders in addressing childcare challenges. Participating counties are working with national experts to co-create sustainable solutions and financing strategies to strengthen local childcare systems in response to workforce needs.
Early Childhood Development Initiative
Counties play a crucial role in fostering communities that support positive outcomes for young children. Resources and peer learning opportunities are available to help counties advance programs and policies for children from birth to age three.
Transforming Human Services Initiative
County human services provide critical supports that serve as a foundation for moving individuals, children and families out of poverty and improving their immediate and long-term health outcomes.
