Mobile Workshop: Waste-to-Energy Facility

The Hillsborough County Resource Recovery Facility is an award-winning waste-to-energy facility that serves the community with reliable and sustainable waste management, processing up to 1,800 tons a day. The facility incinerates garbage to produce renewable energy that is used to power adjacent Hillsborough County infrastructure, with the excess power sold back to the grid. In addition to the energy and financial benefits, processing waste via the Resource Recovery Facility reduces the county’s greenhouse gas emissions compared to landfilling.

Mobile Workshop: Apollo Beach Nature Preserve

The 63-acre Apollo Beach Nature Preserve, located along the eastern shore of Tampa Bay, was acquired by Hillsborough County in 1996 through its Environmental Lands Acquisition and Protection Program. The county and its partnering agencies restored native habitats, including estuarine marsh, tidal creeks, beach dunes and upland islands. Recreational amenities include nature trails, picnic pavilions, beach access and an ADA-accessible observation tower that provides panoramic views of Tampa Bay, downtown St. Petersburg, downtown Tampa, and Florida’s amazing sunsets.
