The County of San Diego continually seeks to assure service delivery to the public in the most efficient, effective and productive manner possible. This can be enhanced by implementing our Government without Walls (GWOW) initiative. The GWOW initiative was designed to give Couty staff and managers a set of tools and resources to identify alternative work schedule and location options, to evaluate whether alternative work schedules or locations would benefit department business needs and, if so, to guide them in implementation. Some potential benefits of GWOW include reduced vehicle fuel and maintenance costs, reduced facilities costs, increased staff mobility, increased efficiency and productivity, and increased satisfaction in customer service. County programs can maximize efficiency and productivity while minimizing costs by utilizing GWOW tools such as alternative work schedules, strategic vehicle assignments, locations and pools, alternative staff work assignments, and increased mobility of information technology (IT). Each program/unit is evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine whether nontraditional work schedules, environments and/or equipment would facilitate an increase in productivity and/or a decrease in costs.
