Year: 2010

During the past year, Maricopa County’s Internal Audit Department established a popular, low-cost technology training program for professionals in county and city government. Maricopa County Internal Audit designed the “Tech Tips” training program to promote technology skill building among peers in an interactive lunchtime setting. "Tech Tips" offers a low cost solution to leverage limited training budgets. The program emphasizes volunteerism, drawing on the talents and experience of local auditors, helping to minimize training costs. Training sessions have included topics such as Computer Aided Auditing Techniques (CAATs), Information Security, Web-Conferencing, Audit Assisting Web Tools, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) graphing. By offering free CPE, their program has saved $1,890 for attendees in just three sessions, with many more sessions planned. Consistent attendance requests for specific training topics are marks of the program’s success, revealing a demand for this practical, no-cost training.
