About the Program

Category: Personnel Management, Employment and Training (Best in Category)

Year: 2012

Many employees are accidentally overlooked by supervisors, putting future leaders at a disadvantage. In response, Orange County started The Supervisor Enhancement Leadership Forum (SELF), which provides supervisors, managers and other leaders who supervise staff with an opportunity to participate in leadership development. The benefit is to the organization, the individual, and the community. Participants are provided options for attendance at a variety of monthly presentations on topics selected and designed to contribute to the development and enhancement of leadership skills. The program is comprised of three components, including the Supervisory Enhancement Leadership Forum, SELF Certification, and a Dare to Lead Recognition, which is an annual recognition for leaders in the organization who demonstrate extraordinary leadership skills. The program validates and encourages continued education and learning to carry out leadership commitment to staff. The program also reinforces appreciation through recognition for demonstration of professional leadership behavior. Being a popular program with employees that not only strengthens morale but identifies future leaders, this program is a great team-building initiative.
