Mecklenburg County recognizes the enormous impact that quality leadership plays on its success as an efficient and effective government organization. We believe leadership success begins by preparing new and future supervisors for this important role. Through direction from our County Manager, Human Resources has designed and implemented the Supervising4Success program, developed for newly hired and recently promoted supervisors, as well as for high potential employees, preparing them for possible, future supervisory roles. In September 2014, the County Manager established this curriculum as a requirement for new supervisors and managers, as well as those promoted within the previous two years. In addition, a curriculum has been established for employees identified by Department Directors as “high potentials” with an interest in pursuing future supervisory roles. Our overall goal is to build a strong team of high performing supervisors who utilize a consistent approach to manage and lead people. Since implementation, 269 supervisors (nearly half of all supervisors) and 45 high potential employees have completed the program. 98% of those participating agree their knowledge and skills have been greatly enhanced.
