Category: Financial Management (Best in Category)
Year: 2009
The program that El Paso County has developed is SQL Server based using Crystal XI as the reporting tool. This database allows El Paso County to perform in depth analysis on sales tax data that is actually collected by the Colorado Department of Revenue. This program saves countless hours of manual or spreadsheet calculation by automating the analysis process. Analysis that once took a month to complete can now be done with the press of a button in a matter of minutes. This allows El Paso County to report discrepancies to the Colorado Department of Revenue that are much more accurate, which in turn allows the Revenue Department to perform a more cost effective investigation into the discrepancies. Not only can El Paso County better analyze its own available data, but this program also gives the County an additional capability of running comparative analysis with entities that share its jurisdictions. This additional capability allows El Paso County to find discrepancies for themselves and the other jurisdiction that otherwise would not have been found using the prior analysis tools. This program also gives the Colorado Department of Revenue an additional tool for determining which businesses to audit each year, making for a more efficient audit process.
