Staff development and leadership training programs are essential in sustaining an effective County workforce. However, during a time when counties are exercising fiscal restraint in response to uncertain economic times, educational opportunities for public employees are a difficult cost to justify. The Registrar-Recorder/County Clerkâs (RR/CC) solution was to partner with an academic institution to deliver educational opportunities onsite. With a zero net impact on budget, the RR/CC successfully partnered with California State University, Northridge (CSUN) to host a Masters Degree in Public Administration. The graduate degree is entirely funded by student tuition and is available to all eligible County employees. Through the development of this university partnership, the RR/CC promotes a culture of learning and self development. This collaborative approach to educational enrichment and workforce development ensures a pathway for success not only for the employee, but for the organization.
