Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DOCR), Human Resources Section broaden the reach of applicants by creating a recruitment event model in assisting to fill critical public safety/correctional positions in less time by conducting 4 of 7 steps of the employment process in one-day. Efforts also provided a cost savings by filling positions sooner and reducing overtime to cover mandatory posts. This recruitment model improved the administration of existing County recruitment programs and generated better intergovernmental cooperation by working with other county offices and agencies such as MC Office of Human Resources, MC Public Information Office, and Montgomery College. Additionally, DOCR developed and shared information with the State of Maryland which incorporated portions into their recruitment strategies. This model reduces 4 phases of the employment process from 12 weeks down to 1 day (from date of application to contingent job offer). This model also encouraged professional development through monthly recruit classes for in-hours and State mandated training in critical areas, increasing the knowledge base of our staff in providing better services to those remanded to DOCR. Taxpayers benefited because DOCR filled vacant positions which allows for better services and therefore a safer community. Secondary results were realized from having correctional classifications recognized through branding across media platforms used.
