Every election day, events at polling centers can either be a smooth success or a big failure, depending on how prepared the polling staff is. Orange County created an innovative video developed to improve the quality of training for the thousands of volunteers in the County who serve as poll workers on Election Day. The video is part of a highly interactive, multi-media training program that provides step-by-step guidance through all the steps and processes poll workers must complete, helping to visually and actively bring the poll workers’ role to life. The training video was completed in 2011 and is in use for poll workers serving in the 2012 elections. Poll workers are the primary point of contact for most voters on Election Day. By improving training for poll workers, the Registrar of Voters can offer a smoother, more streamlined election experience for voters throughout the County. The Registrar of Voters has used a training video as part of its poll worker training program for years. However, the video was only loosely incorporated into the training program and many poll workers never watched the video at all. The new Poll Worker Training Video refreshes the information presented to poll workers in a highly engaging way and is fully integrated into all components of the poll worker training program. Because of this creative video, election day has become a smooth success at polling centers across the county.
