About the Program

Category: Personnel Management, Employment and Training (Best in Category)

Year: 2016

Montgomery County Government introduced its employee wellness program in the spring of 2015. The LiveWell program is supported by a joint labor/management Wellness Steering Committee, comprised of the Office of Human Resources, MCGEO UFCW Local 1994 and IAFF Local 1664. LiveWell’s greatest accomplishment in its first year has been the launch of the Virgin Pulse program, in September 2015. Virgin Pulse integrates state of the art fitness tracking devices with personal and group challenges, online tools and Health Assessment, family programs, biometric screening stations, and a mobile app. LiveWell’s success is due, in part, to having a dedicated Wellness Program Manager, hired in February 2015, and a strong team of Wellness Champions throughout the County. The Wellness Champion team is comprised of 79 employees from 30 County departments and agencies. Wellness Champions lead wellness initiatives in their department and assist with LiveWell events and communication. Senior leaders illustrate their support for wellness through LiveWell. LeadWell., an initiative that showcases leadership support through monthly sponsors and email communications. The LiveWell program has also implemented monthly wellness webinars, holds onsite fitness classes, provides wellness workshops for departments, hosts monthly events for employees in the field, creates special events and seasonal programs, and communicates through weekly Wellness Wednesday emails, a monthly newsletter, and print materials.
