Like many counties throughout the nation, in 2021 Leon County Government faced difficulties filling key positions in its workforce, while at the same time responding to increased demands for service as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. To address this challenge, Leon County created the “Hired on the Spot” recruitment initiative to expedite its hiring process and quickly fill key vacancies in the County’s workforce. Through Hired on the Spot, the County hosts hiring events where local job seekers can apply, interview, and get hired – all in the same day. The County hosted the first of these events in 2021 to fill over 40 high-need positions in its Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Facilities Management and Solid Waste divisions. The first iteration of this program resulted in 100% of the County’s targeted positions being filled in a single day.
