Montgomery County Government has continued to demonstrate its commitment to improving employment opportunities for people with disabilities, veterans and veterans with disabilities through a variety of employment hiring initiatives. These initiatives include the Customized Employment Intern program, Quest Intern Partnership, Project SEARCH Montgomery, Hiring Preference Initiatives for People with Disabilities and Veterans with disabilities, which enhanced the County’s existing Veterans Preference policy, and the Non-competitive Hiring Process which allows for the non-competitive appointment of qualified persons with disabilities to County merit system positions. Montgomery County Government is the first local jurisdiction in the country to provide for non-competitive hiring of qualified persons with disabilities to merit positions. Over the years, the Office of Human Resources & the Department of Health & Human Services have worked tirelessly with the Commission on People with Disabilities, Commission on Veterans Affairs, Montgomery Works, Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), SEEC (Seeking Equality, Empowerment and Community), Ivymount School and other agencies to implement programs and hiring initiatives that will increase the hiring of these under-employed populations.
