The Employee Resource Group Council (ERG Council) is a forum for the County’s existing and developing Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to collaborate and communicate. ERGs are concordant, 501(c)3 nonprofit bodies that represent the diverse and talented County workforce. The ERG Council gives the County enterprise a mechanism to ensure a consistent message and specific direction is provided to all County employees to enhance diversity and inclusion. The value of the ERG Council is its ability to leverage information among the various ERGs, allowing for more focused programs that streamline employee development and retention. The ERG Council is also a key component in defining the County’s culture. The ERG Council is a novel way to ensure that influential groups (the ERGs) align with County initiatives and the County strategic plan. Additionally, the leaders of the ERGs represent the needs of their members (other County employees) and collaborate on programs and events that meet these expressed needs. They also help support the County’s Diversity and Inclusion initiative by promoting the desired outcomes of inclusion for all employees and customers by motivating and engaging the County of San Diego workforce.
