About the Program

Category: Personnel Management, Employment and Training (Best in Category)

Year: 2015

In September 2014, Coconino County launched a new program called “Developing Organizational Talent” (DOT Program). The goal of the program is to nurture the next generation of leaders and managers by fostering opportunities for ambitious employees to develop the versatility and experience that will help propel our organization toward delivering even higher levels of services to constituents. The DOT Program is structured as a rotational program for a period of one year, split into three four-month assignments. Employees rotate through the County Manager’s Office, an HR/Finance/Budget combined assignment, plus one additional County Department determined by their specific employee development desires. By participating in the DOT Program, employees develop new skills while assisting departments in the provision of vital resources for specific projects. DOT Program participants expand their skill sets while deepening their understanding of essential County functions. An anticipated byproduct is that employees will enhance their ability to envision the “bigger picture” of how departments are interconnected, and how our County services impact lives within the communities we serve. DOT Program graduates, then, will emerge from the program better-equipped to tackle leadership functions within our organization.
