About the Program
Category: Personnel Management, Employment and Training (Best in Category)
Year: 2010
With over 4000 employees working in 20 locations across 9,200 square miles, Maricopa County Superior Court and Justice Court employees traditionally had to travel to central Phoenix to participate in classroom training. This traditional classroom training model consumed reams of paper through registration paperwork and course materials each month. The Distance/Live Streaming Education project was developed to eliminate the need to travel for training, to reduce paperwork and to give more time back to court staff to meet the needs of its customers. By using the courtâs intranet, one training room now broadcasts a live program out to every court employee computer. Students can interact with the speaker by e-mailing them questions to a training account used during the broadcasts. Course registrations and follow-up evaluations are all done electronically through the network. Live programs are recorded, stored on a video server, and catalogued so anyone the missed the liver program or would like to review it can access the program through video on demand. By eliminating the need to reimburse employees for their travel expenses, the county saved $21,000. Both supervisors and employees have stated an interest in more distance learning.
