The Annual Women’s Leadership Conference Series was borne out of an annual retreat of the County Public Works Department’s Women’s Leadership Council. It served as a primary objective of the Council to develop projects and promote opportunities for leadership for women in a male-dominated Department. The inaugural event was launched with the Leadership legacy theme in November 2010 and featured inspirational women in leadership roles in all aspects of life. The results were overwhelmingly positive, far exceeding the conference committee’s expectations. The all-day Conference reached a large number of people not only in the Public Works Department, but within other County departments as well. Funding was entirely based on sponsorship, resulting in a nominal fee to attendees. Judging from the success of the event, the County believes it to be clear that there is an overwhelming need for these types of forums where women can gather to network, learn, and grow professionally and personally.
