The Alabama Motor Grader Training Program is a program facilitated in partnership by the Association of County Commissions of Alabama (ACCA) and the Alabama County Engineers Association (ACEA). The sustainable program utilizes county engineers and skilled motor grader operators from across Alabama to teach the many county employees who must work with the complex, costly equipment when maintaining the state’s 16,000 miles of unpaved roads. The program was formalized in the spring of 2017 with the goals of addressing Alabama’s need for training motor grader operators, reducing liabilities in the workplace and providing the training affordably to all counties within the state. Since then, 15 motor grader classes have provided 90 county employees with the proper training to safely operate a motor grader for a cost of approximately $9,000.
