percent are administrative assistants. To further improve the county’s celebration of Administrative Professionals Week and provide professional development training to the largest segment of the county’s employee population, a group of administrative assistants—the Administrative Resource Team—began a self-directed training session for all support staff that is staged in the county’s Government Center. Now known as Professional Development Day, it is free to participants and is further value-added by the morale enhancement and networking opportunities it affords the county’s largest employee class who might easily be taken for granted. The Administrative Resource Team is comprised of 24 members representing over 20 county agencies. The group focuses their efforts on planning workshops for this Professional Development Day during Administrative Professionals week. All workshop presenters are volunteers, most are county employees or vendors. Workshop topics are varied and selected to encompass the broad spectrum of identified interests of administrative assistants: career development, technology, communications, finances and health. The team utilizes suggestions and comments from coworkers as planning tools. This success of the training can be measured by its popularity, as attendance numbers have remained at capacity every year. In addition, the Administrative Resource Team has reached out to coworkers and participated in the Human resources assessment of the specifications and realignment of positions. In this way, it has become the recognized voice of the county’s support staff.
