Year: 2016

The best employees make the most of their strengths and work to improve upon shortcomings. To effectively do this, they must first understand what their strengths and shortcomings are. The County of Los Angeles Department of Human Resources (DHR) developed a custom 360° Feedback Assessment (360) Program to provide a means for employees to obtain this understanding and for their departments to support them in meaningful professional development. DHR developed and administers the 360 Program entirely in-house. The 360 measures an employee’s strengths and development needs through feedback provided by the employee and his/her supervisor, colleagues, direct reports, and customers. Administered through an online survey comprised of 90-180 items, the 360 assesses a range of 15-30 competencies selected by the employee’s department from the County’s Leadership Competency Dictionary. Results are provided to the employee in a confidential report during a one-hour, 1-on-1 feedback coaching session. The 360 Program provides departments a cost-effective 360 option that eliminates the need to contract with an outside vendor, while providing the benefit of having content that is tailored to the County. The 360 Program advances the County’s Succession and Workforce Planning Program and demonstrates our Employer of Choice commitment to a culture of learning and development.
