The Maricopa County Human Services Department Workforce Development Division has partnered with the Town of Wickenburg to bring workforce services to area residents. The objective of this partnership is to promote the economic and workforce development of the Wickenburg area. The workforce services, funded partially through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, prepare residents to enter or re-enter the workforce, enhance their education and skills, and contribute to the economic vitality of the region. Wickenburg, located in the extreme northwest corner of Maricopa County, has lacked the resources to connect job seekers with jobs, employers with talent, and the public with career guidance and educational opportunities. The establishment of a satellite âOne-Stopâ career center within the town library will enable residents to easily access services and employment opportunities that will put them on a path to self-sufficiency. These services will also benefit the business community with finding qualified applicants to meet their workforce needs, thus enabling businesses to prosper. Although the unemployment rate in the state has declined and is currently about 5%, the need for employment resources in this remote community is strong, especially for individuals facing challenges such as veterans, the homeless, re-entry populations, disconnected youth, low-income families, single parents and individuals lacking transportation.
