In recent years, the Los Angeles Superior Court (LASC) referred approximately $250 million worth of failure-to-appear (FTA) traffic citations annually to its collection agency. FTAs are issued when ticket holders fail to satisfy their obligations to either: 1) pay the ticket, or 2) appear for a judicial hearing. Consequently, the ticket holder is charged with additional penalties and assessments, one of which is license suspension. The Court recognized it was a hardship for many clients to pay the entire citation in one lump sum or to appear in court to negotiate payment. To address these hardships, the Court introduced a new feature to its website: the Traffic Payment Plan (TPP) Program. TPP allows clients with non-delinquent vehicle code violation citations to establish payment plans and to make incremental payments on the LASC website. The TPP program has been well-received since its launch in August 2015, with nearly 12,000 court clients establishing payment plans online and over 21,000 successful subsequent installment payments.
