Police response is often reactive. “Think B4 You Post/Project Internet Safety” is proactive. This new program addresses the public safety issue of internet child pornography and internet predators with an innovative educational plan that empowers our children and families with knowledge, skills, and resources to remain safe while using the internet. The program's trained, experienced, professional staff recognized the need for specialized programming addressing internet safety for children and their parents and/or caretakers. Based on their collective experience, project staff understands that children do not know or do not recognize the signs of internet predatory behavior and must learn the choices they can make to remain safe, and the resource role the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) serves to help them. The MDPD Special Victims Bureau (SVB) Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit conducts a minimum of two “Think B4 You Post/Project Internet Safety” sessions each month serving children ages 3 through 18, and adults. Presentations take place across the Miami-Dade County (MDC) community; schools, hospitals, community organizations, and businesses may contact the SVB to schedule and conduct this educational presentation.
