Year: 2010

The Teen Self-Sufficiency Program (TSP) attempts to empower young people to live life successfully on their own by providing Independent Living Workshops addressing topics vital to independent living. The program seeks to serve youth through assisting them in accessing services and resources to support their transition into adulthood. This is facilitated through numerous workshops, one-on-one coaching and extensive community partnerships. Workshops are open to all youth in El Paso County and focus on knowledge that youth need but may not have had the opportunity to learn, as demonstrated in the Apartment workshop which explain how to budget for, contract, and find an apartment. The need for such a program is great, and TSP seeks to fill the gap in service in the community so that all youth have access to knowledge, tools for success and reliable alternatives to public assistance in El Paso County. Responsive surveys from participants have been overwhelmingly positive, and the program has served nearly 100 youths to date.
