In August 2010, Summit for Kids, an all day expo for children K-12 was held to help prepare children for the upcoming school year, while also having some fun. Approximately 8,000-10,000 citizens attended the free event, which included 109 exhibit booths, educational sessions, live entertainment, activities and free back-to-school immunizations, physicals, dental check-ups, and school supplies. A summit for professionals was also held - Working Side-by-Side for Kids – which was a development seminar for educators, social workers, legal professionals, and child care workers throughout the community. A total of 256 citizens participated in the workshop. The Akron Bar Association, Akron Public Schools and the Summit Education Initiative partnered in this seminar. A luncheon was also held, the purpose of which was to issue a report to the community on advancements that have been made in the areas of early childhood education, alternatives to juvenile incarcerations, and housing issues impacting children aging out of foster care. A total of 425 community leaders attended the event.
