Branch County implemented an integrated security program that allowed for centralized controlling, monitoring, and reacting to situations. Significant events that unfolded since the September 11th terrorist incident prompted the county to review its security and introduce measures to strengthen its ability to properly react to numerous situations. In 2006m the county worked to install a security system that delivered 360-degree, real time surveillance. The county worked aggressively with the risk management insurer to maximize funding and partially fund the project through grants. Following extensive review, a cost effective and comprehensive system was installed. The system allows for simultaneous display of 27 internal views or panels and 360-degree external surveillance. Within the first month of installation, security identified and prevented theft and damage to vehicles in the parking lot, controlled paraphernalia exchange among inmates, and prevented court escapes.
