About the Program

Category: County Administration and Management (Best in Category)

Year: 2010

Clark County Development Services’ Resort Annual Inspection program was implemented to require the periodic inspection of existing resort hotels in unincorporated Clark County, including hotel/casino properties on the Las Vegas Strip, for maintenance and building code safety compliance. The program, implemented in April 2008, is the first of its kind in the nation. Whereas building inspectors traditionally are responsible for assuring new construction complies with building codes and approved building plans, the Resort Annual Inspection program requires inspectors to ensure that existing building have been properly maintained to building and fire code standards and that no unauthorized construction work has been performed. Since the program’s inception, Clark County’s building inspectors have completed the review of 18 resort hotels and uncovered more than 8,000 code violations related to improper maintenance and building improvements undertaken without required building permits or inspections. Most importantly, resort owners have been receptive to the program and forthright in addressing each issue with quick responses and code-compliant resolutions.
