The Quadrennial Budget for Financial Sustainability is a rolling four‐year budget that was developed throughout 2013, with a final adoption date of November 20, 2013. The first quadrennial budget was created for years 2014‐17, and was officially implemented on January 1, 2014. On an annual basis, the Board of Commissioners adopts a reaffirmed budget for the coming year, as well as an updated fouryear budget. In late 2014, the Board of Commissioners adopted a reaffirmed 2015 budget as well as budgets for years 2016‐18. Our longer‐term approach to financial planning was created as a response to the economic downturn of 2009. Development of a quadrennial budget served the dual purpose of planning service delivery further into the future and providing economic stability to the employees delivering services. These vital functions of local government were severely tested during the last recession. Anticipated outcomes were adopted by the Board of Commissioners in the form of long‐term budget priorities. The Board emphasized that the four‐year budget should ensure the community safety net through health and human services inclusive of public safety, increase economic opportunity and workforce development, ensure mobility and civic infrastructure for residents, reduce environmental impact, and development of the internal workforce/talent.
