The Baldwin County Community Corrections Program is an umbrella program essentially with three different divisions under it. One, the Pre-Trial Release Program, is an initiative developed to assist qualified inmates with the opportunity to be released from jail prior to their court date. This allows them to remain employed or in school and remain a productive citizen, while at the same time being supervised as they await their court date. An inmate could also be sentenced to a second program, the Community Corrections Program, where again the participant will be closely monitored until they finish paying off their fines and restitution, as set by the courts. Finally, another possible sentencing for an inmate is the Community Service Program. In this program, the participant must complete a specified amount of community service hours. These hours are set by the judge and then the participant checks in with county staff. The participant is assigned community service duties, such as washing fire trucks at the many volunteer fire stations in the county, cleaning animal pens and assisting with animals in the several animal shelters in the county or their services are used to clean county buildings. In each program, each participant is closely monitored to ensure that the experience provides the maximum benefits.
