In March 2008, Camden County adopted it first Strategic Plan. This document reflects the mission and values of Camden County, sets goals and provides strategies and action steps in order to achieve the goals. A key component of Camden County’s Mission and Values Statements as well as the Strategic Plan is to provide open government. Open Communication in Government provides the public with an insider’s view of their local government. It offers the community as well as those who have an outside interest in Camden County to not only be able to obtain information regarding the typical questions most often related to open records requests effortlessly, but also educates the public regarding the services and programs within county government. Several mechanisms have been created in order to accomplish this goal including updating the county’s website, the formation of a Communications Committee, and the recent approval and endorsement of a Citizen’s Academy. All of these efforts have assisted in developing a program for Open Communications in government that not only the employees but community at large can be proud of.
