One-Stop Shop Fire and Life Safety Inspections Program—This program streamlined inspections of fire systems and use and occupancy by transferring these construction-related inspections from the Department of Fire and Rescue Services to the County’s permitting agency, the Department of Permitting Services. Prior to the creation of a new fire system inspection unit within DPS, these services were provided principally by DFRS inspectors. The transfer resulted in immediate service improvements for County businesses which, with next day inspections and no additional fees, are able to open for business faster and with less expense. The Department of Permitting Services was able to absorb the inspections into its existing structure and DFRS was freed up to focus on its core functions.
