Year: 2010

The Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners has established a goal to preserve and enhance neighborhoods through the promotion of neighborhood safety. The Neighborhood All Hazard Preparedness Program provides for neighborhood safety by educating and assisting neighborhoods to be prepared, respond and recover in the event of emergencies. It enables individuals and communities to recover quicker from disasters and it improves the response time to the individual who experienced an unexpected emergency or illness. The program prompts citizen engagement to take self-sustaining responsibility in the event of an emergency and to prevent the onset of an emergency. The program provides specific criteria with step-by-step instructions for neighborhoods to focus on categories of pool safety, beach safety, fire and injury prevention, neighborhood disaster plans and proper usage on 911 services. Upon completion of the programs’ specific criteria, the neighborhood will be recognized by Sarasota County’s Emergency Services Business Center as Neighborhood All Hazard Prepared. On an annual basis, Emergency Services will bring in all successful neighborhoods to be formally recognized by the Board of County Commissioners. Likewise, the neighborhood can take pride in their ability to keep their neighborhoods safe.
