Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services’ Division of Licensure, Regulation and Education (LRE) manages the oversight of alcohol regulation for over 1,000 businesses in the county. While inspection reports are completed by enforcement with iPads on electronic forms, for years they had been emailed to the office, printed out and added to paper files. Other information such as violation history, fines and license application information are in separate software programs and only converge in a paper file at the office. The LRE teams’ objective was to better manage licensee information, being tracked within multiple, separate tracking systems, and integrate them into a system that can be accessed remotely by inspectors in the field and easily analyzed by management to set priorities. To meet this challenge, ABS regulatory management partnered with the departments information technology team to help find a software solution that could bring regulatory data standards up and allow for real time, remote access by inspectors. Working together, the team was able to build its own program through Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI) and avoid the high cost of purchasing a licensing management system. The solution exceeded expectations.
