Category: Criminal Justice and Public Safety (Best in Category)

Year: 2014

Since 1968 The Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (MCDOCR) has offered education services to inmates in an effective program known as the Model Learning Center (MLC). Technology is an integral part of a program that contributes to the rehabilitation of inmates and complements the public safety function of the correctional staff. The MLC offers more than 150 inmates per month a wide range of classes. In an effort to maintain relevancy, the school incorporates technology into the instructional cycle on an ongoing basis. Over the past two years the Information Technology Department worked tirelessly to install computers and software that enhance the educational opportunities at the correctional facility. Six months ago the MLC began offering online GED testing. Three months ago preloaded tablets were introduced into the classroom and housing pods. The Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation would like to nominate the staff of The Model Learning Center and the Information Technology Division for the 2014 Achievement Award Program to acknowledge the excellent work they do in integrating technology into the education services provided to inmates at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
