Loneliness among Americans has reached “epidemic levels,” according to Cigna’s United States Loneliness Index Study, released in 2018. This research demonstrates the physical and/or mental health decline in older adults experiencing social isolation. In response, the Baltimore County Department of Aging (BCDA) developed an initiative to promote Living Connected. The campaign offered a multifaceted approach to combat this serious challenge affecting older adults including awareness education for all ages and engagement activites for older adults and caregivers. The initiative was further accomplished through successful partnerships with County agencies, private companies and non-profit organizations.
