To become an industry leader in efficiency, integration, and innovation, Health and Human Services (HHSA) has trained its entire staff if 5,936 employees in Lean Six Sigma methodology. This methodology streamlines processes, eliminates waste, reduces cost, and strengthens a data-driven culture that aims to continually improve products, services, and processes to meet customer needs. HHSA established the Lean Six Sigma Program during fiscal year 2011-2012 and set in motion a three-tiered training structure to build capacity. HHSA has challenged its staff to apply the Lean Six Sigma principles to their job. Thus far, 68 have trained to lead or participate in Lean Six Sigma projects throughout the Agency. All staff can participate in the white and yellow belt trainings but those interested in a green belt certification must submit an application signed by their manager. If selected for the course, these individuals will lead a project where they can practice the concepts they are learning, while being mentored by coaches. Results have been noticeable and measurable. HHSA has completed 62 Lean Six Sigma projects aimed at simplifying processes to increase productivity and provide better customer service.
