Year: 2009

The Dakota County program for prioritizing requests and acquisitions for the Fleet Capital Equipment Program provides an objective method for organizing vehicles and equipment requests based upon greatest organizational need and improves efficiency and effectiveness in the use of the County’s resources. It reduces competition for capital equipment requests between organizational units: promotes greater utilization of existing equipment, both within and among units; encourages “rightsizing” of equipment to meet user business needs; improves the tracking and accountability of fleet usage; and requires organization units to consider greater organizational goals, over individual unit needs. The program provides a justified means and the information needed by policy-makers to make decisions to replace vehicles according to expectations for extended life cycles; consideration of repair and maintenance costs per unit, based on vehicle unit expenditure analysis fleet fuel efficiency goals; and attention to user safety.
