About the Program

Category: County Resiliency (Best in Category)

Year: 2011

The household hazardous Waste Drop and Swap promotes the environmentally responsible re-use of unwanted household chemicals that are collected from households in El Paso County, Colorado. The purpose of the program is to provide citizens the opportunity to acquire, free of charge, new or gently used chemicals that are common to most households (paint products, lawn and garden chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides; household cleaning products; automotive products; and pool chemicals). The program further reduces the amount of hazardous material sent to the County’s landfills, demonstrating that it is a win-win undertaking for both the County and its residents.
