In 2007, Miami-Dade County Police Department, in partnership with the mayor and the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers, launched the Gun Bounty Program. The program makes it possible for residents to receive a $1,000 reward for turning in someone with an illegal gun. Anyone who has information can call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers and report a person illegally possessing a gun. Once the person has given detailed information and the offender is arrested, the tipster will be eligible for the reward money. All calls remain confidential, and no one will ever ask for a name or phone number of the caller. The MDPD is committed to a quick and thorough ending of any problems involving illegal gun activity.
