After years of strategic planning and tremendous multi-sector leadership efforts, the Guilford County Family Justice Center (FJC) opened in June 2015. The FJC is a âone-stop-shopâ for victims of child, elder, and adult domestic and sexual violence. This transformational public safety initiative brings together 2.6 million dollars of community resources including law enforcement, prosecutors, health and human services professionals from the private and public sectors, legal services, and medical services to provide integrated, coordinated support in a single location. The FJC is committed to working with victims of abuse across the lifespan, including aging adults. In order to address the unique needs of seniors and bridge gaps within the aging services sector in Guilford County, the FJC established a coalition of private and public agencies and organizations called the Elder Justice Committee (EJC). The EJC is comprised of representatives from 40 different organizations throughout the county working with seniors and disabled adults. The mission of the Elder Justice Committee is to be a diverse partnership committed to the shared responsibility of enhancing our communityâs knowledge, resources, and response to elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. As a result of improved collaboration, more seniors are accessing FJC services and are being equipped with the information and knowledge needed to protect themselves, particularly from common frauds and scams targeting this population.
