About the Program

Category: County Administration and Management (Best in Category)

Year: 2012

The Oakland County Clerk’s Deeds Express service was launched in December of 2011. It is an automated entry book that records real estate documents digitally and immediately, and does not require the customer to leave them with the Register of Deeds office to be returned later. The objective of the new service was three-fold, and sought to: 1. Save inconvenience by instantly recording deeds and other real estate documents and not requiring valuable documents be left in the office and returned by mail 2. Save postage expense of returning documents 3. Make real estate transactions instantly searchable and recordable, both for convenience and to combat fraud. In light of economic challenges, as well as budget cuts and staff reductions, the cost savings of this program are important. This initiative has proven to be very successful and popular.
