On January 26, 2020, the Department of Public Health (DPH) activated the Incident Command Systems (ICS) to deploy resources and programs necessary for management of outbreaks. On March 04, 2020, Los Angeles County declared COVID-19 a Local Health Emergency. These actions meant that DPH employees, as ICS field responders, and those reporting to healthcare or office worksites needed to maintain key operational activities and required increasing supplies of critical Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Tracking and timely procurement of PPE for a pandemic response using the traditional decentralized systems would have been labor-intensive and inefficient in the pandemicâs unpredictable supply chain capacity and reliability of alternate sources of PPE. Utilizing the existing Smartsheet license, DPH created and implemented a COVID-19 PPE dashboard. The Smartsheet software was used as the central hub and allowed unlimited number of users to add and edit the worksheet to ensure real-time monitoring of the PPE inventory at various sites. The imported data obtained from Smartsheet enabled DPH to calculate burn rate and procure PPEs needed to maintain key operational activities and respond to the pandemic safely and effectively.
