Campus Kilpatrick is home of the “L.A. Model” for providing evidence-based, rehabilitative services to probation youth in a residential treatment setting. This new, groundbreaking 120-bed state-of the art facility opened its doors on June 30, 2017, as the site where Probation youth are provided services in small groups in cottages. The facility’s living spaces foster a more therapeutic approach to rehabilitation than the military-style barracks traditionally used in probation camps. Amidst the sprawling seven-acres of natural habitat, probation youth are encouraged to live and work cooperatively with each other and with Probation staff —sometimes with former adversaries from their communities. With a much lower staff-to-youth ratio and programming that emphasizes education, counselling and vocational training guided by a trauma-informed child-centered approach, Campus Kilpatrick has now become the nation’s center stage for a modern comprehensive and holistic approach to juvenile behavioral rehabilitation.
