Counties across America are recognizing the importance of investing in young children and their families. This issue brief highlights how counties are creating home visiting programs to connect expectant parents and caregivers of young children with trained professionals (such as nurses, social workers or early childhood specialists) who can provide guidance, resources and support tailored to each family’s needs.

Supporting Families Through Home Visiting Programs provides an overview of and several examples of how these programs address the development of both parents and children and are aimed at enhancing family well-being.

Early Childhood Programming and Resources

Counties routinely provide an array of programs and services to an estimated 16 million children ages zero to three in the United States and are responsible for addressing the needs of young children, and their families, by administering and coordinating PN-3 services including childcare, health and prenatal care, early intervention, home visiting, maternal health screenings, parent classes and early literacy programs.
