WASHINGTON – The National Association of Counties (NACo) today issued the following statement urging Congress to pass the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, a bill to provide for an increase to the debt ceiling and avoid default on the national debt. NACo Executive Director Matthew Chase said:

“We are pleased that the White House and Republican leadership reached a bipartisan agreement to raise the debt ceiling, delivering much-needed certainty on federal commitments to counties.

“Governing often requires a give and take. This bipartisan compromise is a key step in safeguarding the federal-state-local intergovernmental partnership, and we urge Congress to pass this legislation.”
