Loudoun County Public Library (LCPL) weaves its mission of “enhancing the quality of life and meeting the informational, educational and cultural interests of the entire community” into the planning, development, presentation and evaluation of all its programs. With guidance from the Strategic Plan which envisions an ever expanding opportunity for lifelong learning; an inclusive environment which actively engages with all members of the community; and partnerships that respond and reflect diversity, these goals are the framework that is LCPL. Based on this criteria for community engagement, LCPL created a three-tier continuum of programs titled You Belong @ Your Library that promote literacy and social connections for children, teens and adults with intellectual disabilities (ID), sensory integration challenges (SIC), autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and physical disabilities. All of these programs, Open Door Sensory Storytime, Gamer’s Union and the Next Chapter Book Club have allowed the LCPL to grow and join with the community in ways not dreamed possible. The strength of these programs has been realized through community partnerships which include parents, caregivers and advocates, and Foundation support. Loudoun County Public Library has embraced these opportunities to connect with the entire community.
