Year: 2013

The mission of the Working for Kids Program is to improve the well-being of children by increasing the number of children growing up with involved, responsible, and committed fathers and mothers. The Working For Kids program provides employment support to parents who are Child Support customers of our agency. Providing employment support is a departure from typical child support services, and is an investment in the future of children in Wilson County hoping to receive child support. Wilson County DSS committed 2 full-time social work positions to provide intensive case management services to increase the child support paid by parents through employment. This front end investment pays off by increasing child support collections and reducing the amount of Work First (TANF) assistance collected by the custodial parent. Working for Kids staff are able to assist parents with career readiness certification to enhance employment options, job readiness, referrals and placement, and parenting skills.
