Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) plans, designs, builds, maintains and operates the roadway system within the County’s unincorporated areas. MCDOT is responsible for the operation and maintenance of approximately 2,500 miles of roadway, more than 80 bridges (16 of them greater than 400 feet long) and more than 325 culvert crossings, over 160 signalized intersections and nearly 35,000 traffic signs. In order to operate and maintain this vast system, MCDOT enters into contracts with vendors to provide ongoing professional and maintenance services to evaluate and maintain these roadways. Once a Contract is created with a vendor, project managers throughout the organization can create different work assignments against the approved contract that are needed to perform different tasks for designing, studying and maintaining the roadways. The process for creating those assignments has long been a paper-based system that required the completion of a paper form, routing the form for approval and then manually entering the assignment information into a Contracts Management Application. The manual process was time-consuming and at times led to unnecessary delays in obtaining needed services. By creating the Contracts Work Assignment Manager Interface (WAMI), MCDOT has replaced the manual process with an integrated application that reduces the amount of time needed to obtain approval for work assignments, eliminated the manual process of routing a work assignment for approval and no longer has the duplication of effort.
