About the Program

Category: Information Technology (Best in Category)

Year: 2016

Hennepin County is committed to providing a highly available, robust web environment for residents, employees, business partners and other agencies that interact with the county on a mobile responsive platform. To markedly improve the user experience, Web Application Proxy is being used to deliver web-based services to support employee mobility and digital government initiatives. Using Web Application Proxy technology to authenticate a user’s identity allows users to sign-on just once to access all of their county web-based accounts, and enables access from any tablet, smartphone, home computer or laptop. Upgrading to Web Application Proxy mitigates old technology limitations while reducing risk, maintaining data security, and providing new functionality. Besides providing ease of use, Web Application Proxy provides cost savings through the electronic exchange of information between residents, county employees and business partners. Web Application Proxy is a foundational architecture building block for Hennepin County’s Digital Government effort and future federation work with partnering organizations, providing a stable and scalable environment for future digital applications, and positions the county to utilize enhanced security features in the future such as registration of personal devices and multi-level authentication. The implementation of Web Application Proxy tightly aligns with Hennepin County business strategies. While not yet formally measured, increased productivity and customer satisfaction surrounding the user experience is anticipated.
