The Miami-Dade Police Departmentâs (MDPD), Information Technology Services Bureau (ITSB) developed the Warrants Online System (WOS) to provide open warrants information to the Miami-Dade County community. This information is linked with a mug shot photograph if the subject has been previously booked in MDC. Open warrants data is obtained from the MDC Criminal Justice Information System, (CJIS), which provides the actual data based on specific criteria (i.e., non-felony, not juvenile, etc.), from the courts systems and MDC Corrections and Rehabilitation Department. The benefit of WOS is the ability to deliver information to citizens regarding individuals wanted within MDC. By providing this data electronically, the citizen is able to inquire through a web browser on wanted individuals. Before the development of this application, citizens would have to go to a district station and make a personal inquiry if they suspected someone was wanted by law enforcement. Since the new application might produce a possible mug shot, the citizen is able to easily ascertain whether or not an individual is wanted for a crime, thus providing assistance to law enforcement. This program has been very successful with the community. Citizens now feel safer knowing that they have easy access to reliable information about an individuals history.
